Given the unseasonably warm start to our winter here in Colorado, I’m happy to report that I’ve logged almost 90 (!) miles for the year already. Yep. I walked more in January of this year than in January to March of 2026. Granted, I also wasn’t traveling as much, nor was I sick like I was last year but the warm weather helped me get out and go until the last couple of weeks.
I had some work travel and then came back immediately into my twelfth Superstars Writing Seminar. My time as an instruction there is so valuable to me, mainly because the conference never fails to re-charge my batteries and help me get focused for my “writing year.” This year I crashed a panel on maintaining an active lifestyle for creatives, which is ironically why I started this website. The concept is so simple – just move. It doesn’t matter if you want to track your mileage with me. Just move. Around the house. Around the yard. Down the street. Just move.
So after a two week hiatus on good outdoor walks, I went out for a 2.5 mile hike this morning and just listened to instrumental music and let my brain kinda reset a bit. I have more than enough stuff to do at my desk today, which I’ll get to after a healthy lunch, but getting outside in the sunshine on a cool, pleasant day felt amazing. It always does. If exercise intimidates you, just move. A simple walk to the mailbox and back is enough for me on some days – other days it’s 3-4 miles. The point is to get outside, move, and just be.
Let’s go.
